Welcome to Tranquil Corners Yoga, I'm delighted you decided to stop by! I aspire to inspire YOU to live your highest self. We all need some inspiration, motivation, information and support to live as our best selves.

I found yoga almost a decade ago, after both of my parents passed away just thirteen months apart. Yoga was an integral part of my healing from grief. More importantly it made me look inward, to see how my mind and body were connected.

Shortly after losing my parents I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia, a chronic pain disorder. I tried everything - teeth removed, acupuncture, high doses of medications. I even met with a neurosurgeon to consider cutting into my brain to relieve my pain! The options were limited and really ineffective - maybe cutting out the pain would work, but I quickly discovered I was not a candidate. My best friend suggested we try a hot yoga class. Knowing me since I was a teenager, she knew I would need something challenging. I had only ever been on the mat a couple of other times with my daughter, and really wasn't sure that it would ever be something I would enjoy. My friend brought me to a 75 minute intermediate, Moksha flow! I had no idea what I was doing for those 75 minutes. All I knew was that after our savasana I was hooked, and immediately asked when could we go again!

As a Registered Nurse working in mental health and addictions for the past twenty years, I wanted to be able to give my clients more tools and skills to help them find their best selves. The hospital setting was not conducive to this, or the difference that I wanted to make in the world.

Seeking to go deeper into my own personal yoga practice I was lucky enough to meet Katie McClelland of De La Sol Yoga, Hamilton and Waterdown. I did my yoga teacher training with her, and her wonderful group of instructors. The deeper Katie and the other teachers made me look at myself, the more I realized it was these skills and tools that I wanted to share with my family, my friends, my clients, my community......the world!

These skills, the breathing (pranayama), the meditation and the poses (asanas) continue to teach me new things about myself every day. Things that I learn on the mat, that I can take out into the real world and share. I am still a work in progress and will always describe myself as a student. I love the learning and the growth.

This is why I have opened up Tranquil Corners Yoga, here in Innisfil! I want to share these tools with as many community friends as I can. I want to build a community dedicated to living and sharing the countless benefits of yoga and help others develop a non-judgemental, self-accepting attitude founded on self-compassion and self-love. As our thoughts about ourselves transform, the way we relate to others and our environment change.

I want to help you find peace within yourself and trust that your path is bringing you to your highest self.
